Mary Ann's Story
Update: My husband, Erle Hammond (Pip) Wales passed away Saturday morning, January 3, 2015. He was a good man, with many talents that Alzheimer's erased. Fortunately, he recognized me the day before he died, for which I am grateful. He is greatly missed.
July 2014: Unfortunately, Pip was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's three years ago and is now end-stage. He is presently receiving excellent hospice care at a Prescott nursing home. We recently celebrated our 7th Anniversary. I was hoping we would have more time together.
My husband and I moved to Arizona in July, 2009--New England winters are just a little too much to go through anymore.
Life
After 2 1/2 years of widowhood, I married a wonderful man in June, 2007., embarking on a five-week honeymoon that culminated with 9 days at AirVenture 2007 in Oshkosh. Pip is a pilot and flight instructor and I'm starting to learn to fly. My four children from my first marriage have presented me with 10 beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from 7 to 23. They all live in Virginia, so we do a lot of traveling, telephoning, emailing ...Expand for more
and iChatting. Our two cats, Isis, deaf (but not mute!), and Jetstream, a polydactyl, complain vociferously every time we leave town.I rescued two four-week-old feral kittens in our backyard in October 2009 after their mother had been lunch for a coyote. Blizzard and Storm are grown and an absolute delight--with no desire to go outdoors.
Besides the domestic side of my life, I worked in the professional world for many years. During that time I told everyone who would listen that my dream job was to stay home and write. I am living my dream as a professional writer. I'm a member of the National League of American Pen Women and past president of the League of Vermont Writers,
In addition to writing, I recently retired from working in theater. I combined the two interests by co-hosting a local television show, "Wild Spirit: the writing life" for several years. For those who remember me, I am no longer shy nor afraid to speak out. I truly enjoy life and the adventures every day brings...and I've had quite a few adventures! As they say, "to a writer, everything is material!"
